Crossing the Royal River

 

Enjoy some of the finest views in all of London while you criss-cross the Royal River Thames from Big Ben to Tower Bridge You will hear about the passage of bridge building over the river Thames from Roman times to the present day. Learn about the first stone London Bridge and its “Drawbridge Tower” which became known for its gruesome display of severed heads. The walk passes many historic buildings including St Paul’s, the recreated Globe Theatre , Hays Galleria and the Tate Modern.

 Accessibility: 

  This walk might create some challenges. There are many steps on each of the bridges. This walk is not suitable for wheel chairs.  

Duration:   

  About 90 minutes, if you don’t stop! But there are many great attractions on the walk including the Tate Modern so you may need to factor these into your plans  
   

Starting Point:  

  Exit 3 of Westminster Tube station at the foot of Big Ben.  

BestDays:  

   Any day during daylight hours  
   

Transport: 

  Westminster Tube station is on the Jubilee, Circle and District Lines of the underground.
