Spanish Steps
La Dolce Vita!
Italy is about style, and this walk has it all: film locations, designer shopping, artists working in their studios and coffee amongst Canova’s statues. Starting at the Spanish Steps, you'll explore the Piazza di Spagna and we’ll show you some of the charming less well-known back-streets, including where film director Federico Fellini lived in Rome. You’ll hear about some of the English romantic poets who lived in this area, before moving along (via the best ice-cream in Rome!) to finish at that great big fountain splashing its heart out just for you.
Starting Point Top of the Spanish Steps, above Piazza di Spagna. One of the best kept secrets in Rome is the elevator to the top of the steps. The elevator is by the Metro entrance just off Piazza di Spagna (see the map).
Transport Bus or Metro to Spagna (line A)
Duration c. 55 minutes.
Best Days Most shops are closed Sunday and some shops are closed Monday morning. Weekends are very busy at both the Trevi fountain and Spanish Steps. San Crispino (THE ice-cream!) is closed on Tuesdays.
Accessibility Challenging (cobbles and streets with narrow or no pavements). The walk also goes down the Spanish Steps; but it is possible to use the elevator up and down and listen to tracks from the top and/or bottom.
